FIA GT4 : Catharina Felser and KTM defend the lead

The FIA GT Cup appeared for the fourth time this season. GT4 and Sports Light cars fought for points in three races at Spa-Francorchamps. The KTM X-Bows fielded by Reiter Engineering were faced with new competition at Spa. After Lotus had joined the Sports Light field at the last event, two cars from the Dutch company Donkervoort entered the fray in Belgium.

In first qualifying the KTM drivers felt the increased pressure from the competition, Dennis Retera put number 101 in second place, Catharina Felser qualified number 100 in fourth position. In second qualifying Christopher Haase then took pole position, Catharina Felser clinched third spot. Furthermore, with his practice lap time of 2:43.883 minutes Haase recorded the fastest Sports Light time of the weekend.

The first 25 minute sprint race around the 7 kilometre circuit was held on Friday. Christopher Haase and Catharina Felser fought with the respective competition throughout the race and came out on top. Haase won from D´Aste (Lotus) and Catharina Felser after ten laps. “My start was very good,” said a delighted Haase after his victory, “and the race went without problems. Even though the Lotus doesn’t have any ballast like we do we were still able to beat it.”

The second round of the weekend was also held over 10 laps. Reiter Engineering and KTM celebrated victory once again. This time it was Dennis Retera who was the first Sports Light driver to take the chequered fl ag. Catharina Felser fi nished the second race in fourth position and in doing so collected valuable championship points. “It’s fantastic that we finally have more competition in the class,” said Felser, “We can now better compare where we really are, and the result is good for KTM!”

Unfortunately the weekend would end on a sour note for the team. In the third race over 50 minutes both KTM X-Bows had to retire early. Catharina Felser was involved in an accident on the opening lap. On the second X-Bow of Retera / Haase an electrical problem forced them to stop early.

The Reiter Engineering KTM drivers nevertheless hold an undisputed lead in the standings:
