ADAC GT Masters: Title fight still wide open
The ADAC GT Masters competitors met for the sixth time this season, this time at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. Lamborghini drivers qualified on the front row for both races. Frank Schmickler (ARGO Racing) managed this feat in first qualifying, Christopher Haase (team flatex reiter) in second qualifying.
The Gallardo GT3 drivers fought among the leading group in Saturday’s race. Albert von Thurn und Taxis (#1 team flatex reiter) made a fantastic start and held third place for the first-half of the race. Christopher Haase took over the controls of the white Gallardo after 14 laps and worked his way quickly up to second place. The young German fought with deteriorating tyres and finished the 60 minute race in second position.
Frank Schmickler / Sebastian Asch (#3 ARGO Racing Gallardo) crossed the finish line in fourth place just a few seconds later. Their team mates Harald Becker / Frank Kechele were eighth. Michael Raja / Michael Funke started for MRP Motorsport and finished tenth.
Christopher Haase defended second position from his rivals at the start of race two, but damaged the front splitter. Sebastian Asch steered the ARGO Racing Gallardo to fourth place in the first-half of the race. After the pit stops Albert von Thurn und Taxis lost one position after spinning due to a damaged front splitter, which allowed Schmickler up to third
place. von Thurn und Taxis lost another place before the end of the 41 lap race and finished fifth. Asch / Schmickler took the third and final podium position. Raja / Funke claimed a well deserved sixth place in the MRP Gallardo.
Christopher Haase / Albert von Thurn und Taxis have 59 points heading into the final round at Sachsenring in two weeks and could still win the second ADAC GT Masters title in the two remaining races.
