John Bowe again could finish with good results in Australian GT Championship, this time in Symons Plains. He already had a good debut at Phillip Island with Pole Position and three race wins and wanted to continue this lucky row in the seventh event of the championship.
It could not have worked better for MIK Corse at Mugello. Giacomo Piccini and Giovanni Berton took GT3 pole for both races of the weekend. After 25 laps they won the first race in the GT3 class, and also finished in the top ten overall. Davide Stancheris completed the success with his second position in the GT3A class.
The second race saw a GT3A Lamborghini double win in the same order, with overall finishing positions of eighth and ninth. With these top results, MIK Corse is now leading the point standings in GT3A with a big gap over their opponents.
One week before the third round of the FIA-GT European Championship, S.Berg Racing took on another challenge and went to Brno with one Lamborghini Gallardo GT3. Werner Groebl drove the Italian GT car in the Sports Car Challenge event, where also the World Touring Car Championship had their races. Starting from the back of the grid, Groebl fought his way to the front and in the end he had a gap of just 0.3 seconds between himself and the GT winner Martin Brueckl in a Porsche 997 GT3. For the second event, he claimed victory after a incredible race and crossed the line with a gap of 1.62 seconds over his next opponent.
Round four of the Japanese Super GT Championship was held in Sepang, Malaysia. Yasutaka Hinoi and Atsushi Yogo finished the 50 lap race in seventh position in the GT300 category. They are now in ninth position in the drivers championship.
Only S.Berg Racing from Austria took part in Monza’s third meeting of the European FIA GT3 Championship. First Racing still had to clear up the mess after the crash festival of Bucharest. Erik Janis qualified the #15 for second position on the grid for the first race. The young Czech was able to keep in contact with the leading cars on early Sunday morning, and even led for some laps.
Reiter Engineering driver Peter Kox took pole with the GT3 Gallardo of Marius Ritskes for last weekend’s Belcar race at Zolder. He not only beat strong competition from Dodge, Corvette, Aston Martin and Porsche, but he also broke the track record at Zolder. Marius Ritskes took the start and lead the race for more than twelve laps, but an accident finished this good race too early for Kox / Ritskes.
In the 100-mile series of the AvD and the Porsche Club Nuerburgring, S.Berg had success with their Gallardo. Werner Groebl and Hans Knauss drove the GT3 car in Brno and finished in second position overall after 35 laps.
Team Modena made their debut with the Lamborghini Gallardo in the British GT Championship. Rob Wilson and Adam Jones qualified their new car after problems with the gearbox only on 15th place in the grid.
The fourth event of the Australian GT Championship at Queensland Raceway became a walk-over for Bryce Washington. Only in one of the three practice sessions did the NATRAD driver had to battle his opponents. But, in the pole-deciding session, Washington was the fastest driver on track. 1.10,9019 minutes was enough for Pole Position in front of the outclassed GT2 cars of Ferrari and Porsche and the GT3 competitors from Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus and Ferrari.
