Ferdinando Geri and Marco Mocci drove the fastest laps in both races of the International GT Open at Valencia in GTS class. They also took pole for race one. In the races itself they finished in sixth (race 1) and third place (race 2).
The second event of the FIA-GT3 European championship finally ended in a real material battle. For the first time, there was a car race at the street circuit round the Romanian parliament and cars and parts worth several million euros had been destroyed.
The French First Racing Team with head Fabien Giroix had its third full racing weekend in a row. After racing their three Gallardo in the FIA-GT3 championship at Silverstone they headed to their home championship in France.
As of the next race, Lamborghini will start fighting in the British GT-Championship. Team Modena acquired their Gallardo last week from Reiter Engineering. In the British GT Championship the GT3 is the main class, what from the overall champion will be chosen.
The Lamborghini Gallardo of Megadrive and Racing Box had been permanent user of the podium positions at Vallelunga. Baso / Mocci and Geri / Cioci started from second and third position in race one. The Mega Drive pilots Baso / Mocci even finished the race after 26 laps on third place in GT3. In second qualifying they took pole for Lamborghini, but had to cut down in race two. Anyhow, Baso / Mocci finished on third position again.
It was an unimaginably tight ending to the third race of the Japanese Super GT Series in Fuji. Apicella / Yamanishi missed the victory by just 14 seconds after 3 hours and 20 minutes of racing. They had been first in GT300 for most of the 500 kilometre distance, but lost time because of an additional stop to refuel the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT shortly before the end.
Generally the faster and more technically developed GT2 cars from Ferrari and Porsche control the overall classification in the Italian GT championship. But this time, Giacomo Piccini and Giovanni Berton cracked this battle line. In race one, Piccini started from second overall position as the best GT3 car. Piccini / Berton headed the 30 lap race in GT3 the whole time and deserved the class win. Overall they even finished on the Podium.
With S.Berg Racing from Austria and First Racing from France, two teams with three Lamborghini Gallardos each are participating in the second season of the FIA-GT3 European Championship. Both teams finished within the Top 10 at the season opener at Silverstone.
Antonio Escamez Torres and Jaime Sainz de Baranda brought home a further class win in GTS on Saturday and repeated their success on Sunday in the absence of more opponents in the GTS division.
