Exciting news for KTM and its Customer Racing Program: Two KTM X-BOW GT4s, piloted by different teams and with a prominent lineup of drivers, are taking part in the legendary 24-hour race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Entry to the event was originally only planned for 2019, but the positive experiences gathered as a result of the “KTM X-BOW CUP powered by MICHELIN” – has persuaded the teams involved to enter the race this season. By the way, the “KTM X-BOW CUP powered by MICHELIN" will be held again this year, beginning from VLN3.
According to the motto "Equality in the Green Hell", both a women's and men's team will line up for the race. There is the ATU-supported ladies team, and four very fast, prominent female drivers are to share the cockpit of the KTM X-BOW GT4 from “Aimpoint Racing”. They include regular Audi driver and ex-DTM starter Rahel Frey who may, as an exception, take the wheel of the KTM X-BOW in Cup configuration, after all the car is powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI Audi engine. Frey brings 24-hour experience with her, as does Lena Strycek – but both so far have little experience with the KTM X-BOW. However, their colleagues, KTM factory driver Laura Kraihamer, and Naomi Schiff, counterpart of Kraihamer at Reiter Engineering, can contribute that. These two, however, are new to the Nordschleife and therefore must learn the track at VLN 1, VLN 2 and the qualifying race.
The second car, entered from ISERT-Motorsport, has a no less prominent lineup of four gentlemen to drive the KTM X-BOW GT4. Max Friedhoff contributes experience as a multiple 24-hour starter and runner-up in the KTM X-BOW CUP powered by MICHELIN. He was only beaten by the brothers Ferdinand and Johannes Stuck, who are also on the team, and when it comes to speed on the Nordschleife, they have very little competition. If so, then possibly this would come from driver number four. Volker Strycek, Nordschleife legend and first champion in the history of the DTM, whose appearance in the KTM X-BOW GT4 can be considered an accolade for the Austrian racing car.
It is also a wonderful moment for KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz in what is now meanwhile the 10-year history of the KTM X-BOW, even if it is a big challenge. “Entering the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife is something very special. It is a great pleasure that we can also inspire such a lineup of excellent drivers for this event. Nevertheless, we have to be realistic and not expect any miracles. It's very important to concentrate on the work, to learn, and lay the foundation for what will hopefully be many successful years on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.”

What the drivers say about entering the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring:
Rahel Frey: “I’m very thrilled that I’m going to take part in the 24-hour race, albeit in a car that is unfamiliar to me. A big thanks to Audi Sport customer racing for releasing me to compete! It’s a bit like a re-launch for me because I competed in Le Mans in 2010 in a women’s team. In any case, it’s a good idea by ATU and KTM to have four fast girls ready to attack the Nordschleife!”
Lena Strycek: “I know the Nordschleife very well, and the 24-hour race. But it’s going to be a great occasion with the KTM X-BOW GT4 in Cup specification. The car is great, very fast and it's really a lot of fun. The team constellation is also special, and we look forward to all four of us facing the upcoming challenge.”
Laura Kraihamer: “A huge challenge, but also a unique chance. The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the world’s most famous racing circuits, and the 24-hour race is a cult. Just to be here is great, and to be competing with three other fast women drivers is very special. For Naomi and me it is our premiere on the Nordschleife!“
Naomi Schiff: “I’ve driven a lot of different racing cars on different continents and different circuits. But if you get the chance to race the 24-Hour race on the Nordschleife with the KTM X-BOW, that's something special. It's a definite career highlight, and especially in a team with three other great drivers. There’s a huge amount of anticipation, and the job itself is also huge.”
Volker Strycek: “We were already interested in the KTM last year. It’s a unique concept and a very interesting car, and that was confirmed in the first test drive in February at Hockenheim. That it has all come together for Lena and me for the 24-Hour race is a great and very exciting story, and we’re ready for the big challenge.”
Max Friedhoff: “Making the change to the KTM X-BOW GT4 CUP last year was very important for us, and in any case, we planned to compete in the 24-Hour race this year. To be able to be on the start in a KTM-supported vehicle is making things even more interesting, and I think we have a very strong set-up.”
Ferdinand Stuck: "For us, there's nothing nicer than to compete on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. And the highlight is the 24-hour race – so I can’t say much more than we’re really extremely happy to be starting this year for KTM."
Johannes Stuck: “The Nordschleife is cool, the 24-hour race, of course, even more so - and the whole thing with the KTM X-BOW GT4 CUP configuration is just sensational. We are looking forward to being on the start as part of this unique occasion. Having Volker and Max as teammates is also great, and they know how the land lies.”
