FIA GT1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - NURBURGRING

Kox/ Haase on the podium in FIA GT1 world championship!

At the home grande prix from Reiter Engineering on the Nurburgring Peter Kox and Christopher Haase continued the series of success in the FIA GT1 world championship.

Despite the partly harsh conditions during the practices both Lamborghini Murcielago SV670-R from Reiter Engineering were part of the group of the best immediately.

The team from Kirchanschöring brought both cars to the third qualifying in which the places 1 to 8 are assigned for the qualifying race. Ricardo Zonta and Frank Kechele reached position 7, Peter Kox and Christopher Haase even palced themselves in the first row!

The start for the qualifying race on saturday on dry track was critical because of the tight first turn. Frank Kechele in the #25 Murcielago had a slight touch with one of the Sumo Power Nissan and also the #24 Murcielago from Haase was pushed. After the race the Reiter Engineering crew found out that even a part of the rim on the back of the tire was broken. Nevertheless Haase showed a strong performance and stayed in the group of the best, likewise as teammate Kechele. After the pitstop both Murcielagos kept the places 4 and 5, when the rain began in the last minutes. Reiter Engineering decided to change the tires, which at the end was the only right decision. After 60 minutes Kox/ Haase saw the finish line as third and took 4 points for the championship. Kechele/ Zonta were fifth.

On sunday the championship was on. In front of 16,000 spectators Peter Kox defeated the third position successful, Ricardo Zonta was on five in the beginning. On again dry course the Lamborghini drivers kept up with the leaders and put the under presure. Unfortunately Zonta could not prevent a collusion with another car, wherefore he got a drive trough penalty from the race directors. Thanks to the very good pitstop in the middle of the race Kox/ Haase could get to the second position and defeated it until the end. The duo reached the so far best result for the car #24 in this season. Zonta/ Kechele ended the sixth race of the season on position 14.
