After the Kirchanschoering / Germany based equipe secured the team championship at the last event at the Sachsenring, Reiter Engineering driver Christopher Haase finished the final weekend of the ADAC GT Masters with the drivers championship trophy in his hands.
Three drivers with two cars from Reiter Engineering had the chance to win this title before the racing weekend at the famous Hockenheimring. Beneath Christopher Haase there were Peter Kox / Albert von Thurn und Taxis also in a good championship position. There were still 20 points to win and Haase had a lead of 11 points after five weekends.
For the first race on Saturday, both Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo had good starting positions with second (Haase) and fourth (von Thurn und Taxis) fastest times in qualifying. But in the first lap, the decision who would win the drivers trophy was shunted to a later time, Sundays race.
Christopher Haase lost some positions after the start and had to stop his car after the Parabolica with a broken engine. Albert von Thurn und Taxis was third after Haases incident, but lost this position later to Christian Hohenadel (Porsche). Peter Kox stepped into the car at the obligatory pit stop, but lost 10 seconds with a damaged clutch. He worked his way back through the field up to second position and finished the race behind Philipp Peter (Ferrari). Peter Kox and Albert von Thurn und Taxis however scored 10 points for the victory, because Peter scored zero points as a guest entry. So the gap between Haase and Kox / von Thurn und Taxis cut down to only one point!
The decision about the drivers trophy had to be made on Sundays race.
Peter Kox started from second position, Gianni Morbidelli with the Gallardo of Haase from the back of the grid. Due to an engine failure, Morbidelli and Haase had to chance to qualify the car. Pure excitement at Hockenheim!
Peter Kox hold second position, while Gianni Morbidelli overtook one or two competitors per lap in this 30 cars pack. Despite two Safety-car periods, the #7 Gallardo of Morbidelli went down to ninth position. But Kox was still second, so he and Albert von Thurn und Taxis had best chances for winning the championship. Sadly, the fight for the championship was decided before the chequered flag ended the race.
Two minutes before the end of the first half of the race, smoke disappeared of the back of Kox Gallardo and he had to park the car with a damage engine. Christopher Haase now automatic became the first champion of the ADAC GT Masters!
Butt his fact was no cause fort he 19 year old mechanic to calm down in his stint. He finished the race in seventh position overall and collected further points. In the end, Christopher Haase finished his first season in the Gallardo with 79 points, the drivers championship in the ADAC GT Masters and the victory in the Lamborghini Cup trophy.
